My New Years resolutions this year was to be more creative and to get fit.. In April I started Sausage & Sanchez and I am so proud of what has become and so thankful to everyone’s support along the way. Especially those of you that have bought the S&S products.
The get fit side of my new years resolution is a work in progress and I have had so much fun pushing my body to achieve the strong healthy body I have always longed for. It is amazing how when you really want something the universe has a way of making it happen for you. (I will explain what I mean more below).
The year started out great. On the third of January I started Bikram Yoga at Mermaid Beach Thanks to good old SCOOPON I was able to try it out for a month unlimited for $50. I have always been pretty flexible and loved how challenging Bikram was. It was such a great escape and even though I left looking like a hot tomato and constantly soaked my car seat with sweat on the drive home, (I purchased a moped to avoid my car smelling like a garbage truck). I truly loved it.
For those of you that don’t know Bikram yoga is synthesised from traditional Hatha Yoga, runs for 90 minutes and consists of a set series of 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises. Sound easy? Here’ the kicker, it is practiced in a hot room where it is not uncommon for the thermostat to read 40 degrees Celsius.. YUK I hear you say. Well yes, it certainly does take some getting used to.
In the month I averaged 4 classes a week and I finished up with glowing skin and lots more energy. I could feel my body getting more toned but was not losing any weight nor losing any centremetres. I could feel myself getting bored as the movements in each class are always the same and 90minutes is a looooooooooooong time to spend in a hot room in the middle of Summer. So after a brief encounter with BIKRAM himself I thought it time to leave on a high and try something else.
Enter ESSENCE OF LIVING.
I L.O.V.E this place. Pilates Barre being my favourite. Again thank you Universe for the 21 day living social deal where I got to try unlimited classes, (and boy did I ever). I think I went every day for 21 days and then signed up again for a 3 month pass. The studios are beautiful and there are fresh flowers brought in weekly. You can even finish your class with a complimentary Apple to give you a quick boost of energy. Check out their blog for some awesome recipes.
If you haven’t tried Pilates Barre it was started by a Russian Ballet Dancer who developed a protocol for her own rehab after a serious spinal injury in the 1940’s. It integrates fat-burning interval training with muscle shaping isometrics to quickly and safely reshape the entire body. It uses a ballet barre, a yoga mat and hand weights and boy does it help you find muscles you never knew existed. This workout also requires mental focus which is great on the weekend when you want to block out work, and things you ‘have to do’ floating into your head.
With all this Yoga and Pilates I felt great and very elongated. I loved the chance to meditate and try new movements and to shut out the world for an hour. But I thought it was time to boost up the cardio and try something a little more ‘hard core’ and once again as soon as I asked the Universe provided.
“Congratulations Brooke you are the lucky winner of a 12 week challenger boot camp at Urban Babes“. OMG I think I have found my work out calling.
URBAN BABES
OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG OMG This is the best thing ever!
Urban Babes is about females who want to empower themselves, get fitter and improve their bodies by becoming stronger and more toned and I did just that. in 12 weeks I lost 26cm off of my body! Our trainer Revie is amazing and designs high intensity workouts that really get results. (I also love her because she owns a Sausage dog named Peach). I have met some great girls here and have never felt fitter. I am a convert!
The Babes. (I’m second from the right).
With all this energy and exercise on the brain I thought it only natural to make Hans Sausage a gym sweater. It is so cute, made from fleecy bulldog print he is snug as a bug and comfy as can be. I think I should change his name to Rocky he looks so tough.
You can order one for your pooch for just $11 by emailing brooke@sausageandsanchez.com
Thank you Universe for helping me stick to my goals and achieve so much in the last 7 months. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year has in store.
Are you sticking to your NY resolution?
