Keeping warm with Hans Sausage

adventures of S&S, animal welfare, Animal Welfare League of Qld, Hans Sausage, Uncategorized

Hans here,

You know as the weather cools down I like to make little burrows in mums bed and snooze the day away. But today I got dragged to the office to keep the breadwinner company so I insisted on wearing something fabulous!

I scored this beauty from the AWLQ Op Shop today and boy does it keep me toasty.. So to all those chilly dogs out there I say visit an op shop and keep your wiener warm! There are so many bargains to be found!

RUN DOWN AND SICK

As the year draws to a close we have noticed friends and family winding down and with this has come the flu, and illness. WHICH TOTALLY SUCKS! One of our favourite bloggers Curose the Celebrity Dachshund (who is only slightly more famous then Sausage & Sanchez) knows how to deal with illness though and Han’s is keen to jump on board. Check out this Vine.

OUT WITH THE DOGS

adventures of S&S, Animal Welfare League of Qld, Hans Sausage, Notes from S&S

Even though Hans & Odie could be mistaken for the most spoiled dogs on the planet their life was not always so chipper. Before there was “SAUSAGE AND SANCHEZ” Odie was a stray who was left to wander the streets before being found by a Animal Management Officer and taken to the pound, underweight with k9 cough and flea bitten ears. Hans was left abandonded as a five week old puppy in a dog park before finding his way to the Animal Welfare League and then into my heart. It is for this reason we sign up to Out with the Dogs every year in the hope that we can raise a few extra dollars for the companion animals currently waiting for their own happy home at the Animal Welfare League of Qld.

Hans & Odie love to camp and this year we plan to camp at Stradbroke Island. If you can sponsor our camp out please click here or to register for your own fundraiser log on to www.outwiththedogs.com.au

Take your dog to work day

Animal Welfare League of Qld, Hans Sausage, Uncategorized

Every day is Take Your Dog To Work Day at Sausage & Sanchez. So much so Hans & Odie are practically on the payroll. (Paid in cuddles and Treats-a-la-Bark cookies of course).

On June 21 (Friday) Local shelter Animal Welfare League QLD are encouraging the community and local businesses to get involved in ‘Take Your Dog to Work Day’ a day that promotes the bond between humans and their pets.

TYDTWDay has been going strong for 15 years, with employees around the world making room in their cubicles for their canine colleagues to encourage pet adoption.DSC_3559

There are loads of benefits in taking your dog to work including:

Increased Productivity
Bringing a dog to work increases employee productivity level due to decreased stress.

Reduced Absenteeism
Stress is a major driver to absenteeism and reducing stress by having the dog in the workplace could lower stress and ultimately decrease absenteeism.

Increased Employee Interaction
A dog is a great icebreaker. When you walk your dog hoe many times do you get stopped by passersby? If you have a small dog or young puppy you almost have to fight off a stampede. (when Hans & Odie are out and about I constantly make new friends)

 Promotes Healthier Habits
Having their dog at work forces the employee to take the dog for a walk and get fresh air.
Even a short walk during a 15-minute break can revitalise employees which makes them more productive.

Expresso Dogs

adventures of S&S, artists, Hans Sausage, Odie Sanchez

I love it when an artist hinks outside the square – especially when it comes to art involving dogs. My latest art crush is the series called Expresso Dogs by the very clever Brisbane based Stella Park.
The concept was conseptualised when Stella wanted to humanise animals thorugh her work in a fun and quirky way. And boy did she hit the nail on the head. She couples each piece with a quote about coffee which I find gives the artwork a little something extra.

A cup of coffee shared with a friend is happiness tasted and time well spent.

I don’t have a problem with caffeine. I have a problem without caffeine!

Starbucks says they are going to start putting religious quotes on cups. The very first one will say, ‘Jesus! This cup is expensive!’
-Conan O’Brien

Stella has also humanised cats.

I have measured out my life with coffee spoons.
-T.S. Eliot

I was honoured to meet Stella a couple of months back and she was generous enough to do a sketch of Odie Sanchez which she printed on my very own mug! Odie’s ‘mug shot’ arrived in the mail yesterday afternoon and I was so excited to see how much it resembled my little mexican Sanchez.

Do I like my coffee black? Are there other colors?

Odie was excited to see he had mail!

Hans sad the package wasn’t for him

Odie rubbing it in – this present is all MINE

Don’t you think this portrait captures everything about me?

Hans was very jealous that Odie was getting all of the attention so stuck his head in the mug and wouldn’t pull it out.

Where is mine mum?

Is it in here? Surely she sent one to me as well?!

Oh well i’ll just slobber all over Odie’s and claim it as my own

If you would like to see more of Stella’s work be sure to like her on Facebook

Hey there Delilah..

Uncategorized

Delilah the Kelpie. What a delight.

As millions tune in to Big Brother to meet Delilah the Kelpie for the very first time tonight I am lucky to say I have spent the last few months getting to know her while she has been waiting for her new home at the Animal Welfare League of Queensland.

Delilah is cool as a cucumber and sooo much fun. She has made so many friends at the shelter and we can’t wait to see her win the hearts of Australia. (If only she could win the Big Brother prize money).

I wonder who she will bond with the most in the Big Brother house?? Josh, Michael or Sam? She does love the guys 🙂 Watch out Layla!

We took Delilah out for a photo shoot days before heading in to the Big Brother house with Diana from K9 Photography and she was such a star. Check out the images below.

Delilah is sure to get up to some mischief in the house. We know she is good at keeping secrets and is sure to be a confidant and great companion to everyone in the compound.

Hanging out around the office at the AWLQ

Good Luck Delilah!!! Have fun and we will see you on the other side.

When the parents are away – the dogs will play

adventures of S&S

Like many people I love to travel. But when you own pets zipping away at a moments notice can sometimes be a little tricky.

I am lucky enough to have family that live close by that are as ‘in love’ with Sausage & Sanchez as I am, (maybe more). But when they are busy or can’t look after them it is always good to have a back up, – ENTER BarkRoyal

Barkroyal is a boutique pet resort that prides itself on the intamacy and hands on approach it provides for each and every animal in their care.  Located at Mt Nathan, (Nerang) they have 8 deluxe cat rooms, 16 luxury dog suites and 12 large standard dog suites. If you have two dogs from the same family they are able to ‘bunk together’ and keep each other company, (much to Hans & Odie’s delight). If your dog craves affection and likes other dogs Barkroyal also provide a ‘Find a Friend’ option. Which also keeps the cost of your pets stay down.

Owners Melody and Craig met through dog training and have always been very passionate about dogs. Their Border Collie ‘Maverick’ (a past guest of the AWLQ) is a featured dog in the Outback Spectaular show on the Gold Coast is super intelligent. Sitting, staying, begging, shaking, rolling over are just some of the tricks up this cute pooches proverbial sleeve.

I caught up with Melody and asked her the following questions.

Why did you decide to purchase the Barkroyal?

We had been looking for a business in the pet industry for a great length of time but were very particular in what we wanted. When the Barkroyal opportunity came up we knew it was right for us. The decision has been amazing and proven very rewarding. We have a fantastic staff and get to meet so many wonderful much loved pets. It’s been a blessing.

What is the average length of stay for a pet?

Length of stays can vary but we get a large number of weekend bookings, (Fridays to Mondays) or long weekend visits. We have had long stay bookings for three months or more, and also regular customers that come to stay every month.

Is there a particular breed that frequents Barkroyal more than others?

We have separate accommodation for small dogs and large dogs.

Our most common small dog breed would be Maltese and Maltese crosses.
Our next most popular pups would be Staffys and Labradors. We get a wide range from Huskies, Rottweillers and German Sheperds to Whippets, French Bulldogs and Tibetan Spaniels. We love them all.

Tell me about the suites

Our air conditioned luxury suites all have sliding doors to private outdoor patios. We have just updated all the tv’s to flatscreens and we have music piped throughout the kennels. We also have grooming on site, an on call vet and offer a chauffer pick up and drop off service.

Some of our extra activities include nature walks on our 12.5 acre rural retreat, beach visits and Playgroup (which is very popular). Cats enjoy Brush & Massage time.

Are vaccinations required?

We require all 3 puppy/kitten vaccinations plus any annual vaccination which are C5 or above for a dog and an F3 or above for a cat.

Does your pet have to be neutered?

We only accept desexed cats and prefer all dogs be desexed but we will accept non desexed dogs if they are not in season and not aggressive towards other dogs or humans.

What is the cost of boarding?

Although we are a five star accommodation our stays start from just $19 a day for cats and $28 for dogs.

We are very proud of Barkroyal and welcome inspections 10am-11am Monday to Saturday. Come and say hello!

BarkRoyal has just started a facebook page and is able to upload photos of your pet so you can keep up to date all the time. Like them on Facebook

Put your mind at ease next time you travel and check your pets in to the BarkRoyal. The hardest part will be making them leave when you come to pick them up. It’s puppy paradise!
