Ezy Dog – CLICK CLACK front and … bark?

adventures of S&S, Hans Sausage, Notes from S&S, pet care, Uncategorized

So if you have been following Sausage & Sanchez for a little while now you will know that I like to make coats and accessories for Odie Sanchez & Hans Sausage. I have also been honoured and lucky enough to make coats, bandanas, bags and toys for lots of Dachshunds, Chihuahua’s and small breed dogs all over Australia! There is one thing I am yet to master though throughout all of my tinkering and that is HARNESS’S.

Odie & Hans come just about everywhere with me. Shopping, to CrossFit, even to work! In order to keep the little rascals safe I found a travel car harness to avoid them bouncing all over the place while I am trying to drive.

I have purchased these contraptions many times and while Odie sits tight and puts up with not being able to sit on my lap Hans Sausage, (with his annoying Daxie determination) has chewed through many a harness and is back on my lap in record speed.

So I decided to try an Ezy Dog Harness with Car Restraint These bad boys had him sitting pretty and he is yet to escape! WIN!chestplate-diagram2.jpg

The Car Harness can also be used for general walking by attaching a lead.

It is Industry Award Winning which pretty much says it all. The unique molded chest plate I learned even forms to your dogs chest creating a custom fit.

It also rides lower on Han’s chest which apparently disperses his weight so it is easier to walk him. As you can see Odie was very unimpressed when he didn’t receive one so back to the shop I went for his own tough guy chest plate.

Hans is now getting to visit the CrossFit Box again since he is able to travel safely.

998922_10152295521578308_1745453733_nKeeping your animal safe in your car is very important. In QLD drivers can be issued a $256 fine for driving with an animal on their lap so do yourself and your pet a favour and get a car restraint.

The Queensland Road Rules (QRR) do not specifically require an animal to be restrained while travelling inside a vehicle.  In other words, carrying an unrestrained dog inside a vehicle is not an offence.

However, section 297 of the QRR provides that a driver must not drive a vehicle unless they have proper control of the vehicle, and also that a vehicle must not be driven if an animal is in the driver’s lap. An offence under this section carries a fine of $256 and a maximum court penalty of $2,200.

While there is no legal requirement to restrain a dog that is travelling inside a vehicle, the Department of Transport and Main Roads recommends that all animals should be restrained in some way to ensure the safety and welfare of all occupants of the vehicle and of the animal itself.

Hans works out

Hans Sausage, Notes from S&S, Uncategorized

My New Years resolutions this year was to be more creative and to get fit.. In April I started Sausage & Sanchez and I am so proud of what has become and so thankful to everyone’s support along the way. Especially those of you that have bought the S&S products.

The get fit side of my new years resolution is a work in progress and I have had so much fun pushing my body to achieve the strong healthy body I have always longed for. It is amazing how when you really want something the universe has a way of making it happen for you. (I will explain what I mean more below).

The year started out great. On the third of January I started Bikram Yoga at Mermaid Beach Thanks to good old SCOOPON I was able to try it out for a month unlimited for $50. I have always been pretty flexible and loved how challenging Bikram was. It was such a great escape and even though I left looking like a hot tomato and constantly soaked my car seat with sweat on the drive home, (I purchased a moped to avoid my car smelling like a garbage truck). I truly loved it.

For those of you that don’t know Bikram yoga is synthesised from traditional Hatha Yoga, runs for 90 minutes and consists of a set series of 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises. Sound easy? Here’ the kicker, it is practiced in a hot room where it is not uncommon for the thermostat to read 40 degrees Celsius.. YUK I hear you say. Well yes, it certainly does take some getting used to.

In the month I averaged 4 classes a week and I finished up with glowing skin and lots more energy. I could feel my body getting more toned but was not losing any weight nor losing any centremetres. I could feel myself getting bored as the movements in each class are always the same and 90minutes is a looooooooooooong time to spend in a hot room in the middle of Summer. So after a brief encounter with BIKRAM himself I thought it time to leave on a high and try something else.

Enter ESSENCE OF LIVING.

I L.O.V.E this place. Pilates Barre being my favourite. Again thank you Universe for the 21 day living social deal where I got to try unlimited classes, (and boy did I ever). I think I went every day for 21 days and then signed up again for a 3 month pass. The studios are beautiful and there are fresh flowers brought in weekly. You can even finish your class with a complimentary Apple to give you a quick boost of energy. Check out their blog for some awesome recipes.

If you haven’t tried Pilates Barre it was started by a Russian Ballet Dancer who developed a protocol for her own rehab after a serious spinal injury in the 1940’s. It integrates fat-burning interval training with muscle shaping isometrics to quickly and safely reshape the entire body. It uses a ballet barre, a yoga mat and hand weights  and boy does it help you find muscles you never knew existed.   This workout also requires mental focus which is great on the weekend when you want to block out work, and things you ‘have to do’ floating into your head.

With all this Yoga and Pilates I felt great and very elongated. I loved the chance to meditate and try new movements and to shut out the world for an hour. But I thought it was time to boost up the cardio and try something a little more ‘hard core’ and once again as soon as I asked the Universe provided.

“Congratulations Brooke you are the lucky winner of a 12 week challenger boot camp at Urban Babes“. OMG I think I have found my work out calling.

URBAN BABES

OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG OMG This is the best thing ever!

Urban Babes is about females who want to empower themselves, get fitter and improve their bodies by becoming stronger and more toned and I did just that. in 12 weeks I lost 26cm off of my body! Our trainer Revie is amazing and designs high intensity workouts that really get results. (I also love her because she owns a Sausage dog named Peach). I have met some great girls here and have never felt fitter. I am a convert!

The Babes. (I’m second from the right).

With all this energy and exercise on the brain I thought it only natural to make Hans Sausage a gym sweater. It is so cute, made from fleecy bulldog print he is snug as a bug and comfy as can be. I think I should change his name to Rocky he looks so tough.

You can order one for your pooch for just $11 by emailing brooke@sausageandsanchez.com

Thank you Universe for helping me stick to my goals and achieve so much in the last 7 months. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year has in store.

Are you sticking to your NY resolution?
