If you know me you will know that when it comes to the kitchen I am no 1950’s housewife. I burn water, scrape the charcol off my toast on a daily basis and have pretty much come to terms with the fact that I will never be on Masterchef. (Did you watch it last night by the way? Go ANDY)! Believe me it is not through lack of wanting to learn to cook, heck Tom and I have had date nights at cooking school, (however this to also resulted in the head chef looking at my knife skills and promptly taking the knife off of me while shaking his head).
Tom is the cook in our house and he is the most patient cook in the world. He spent 3 hours last night making Terriaki sauce! Albeit his time management is a little off and he is yet to master the ‘clean as you go’ rule, (he cooks I clean) I have to say he is pretty dam amazing in the culinary depatment. It relaxes him, and although you can’t have a conversation while he is IN THE ZONE his efforts are always delicious. (See what he made last night below).
Last weekend I decided enough was enough – I need to a have at least one meal in my cooking repertoire! So I called upon my Friend Sky who is a whiz in the kitchen and we decided we would spend the afternoon in the kitchen making Gnocchi FROM SCRATCH!
To get in the cooking spirit and to get the creative juices flowing, (pardon the pun) I brought over a 1.5 litre bottle of Shiraz. BEST IDEA EVER!
Hans Sausage and Odie Sanchez weren’t going to miss out on the action – they ended up doing more work then I did – Turns out Hans is a whiz with a Whisk!
Odie the typical Mexican wanted nothing to do with making Italian food and spent the afternoon doing shots!
Then lazing in the sun with Sky’s pooch Kurt. They pretend to hate each other but when nobodies looking they hang out like bro’s.
Notice how the Sanchez gets the couch while Kurt is banished to the floor. Little dog syndrome strikes again!
Here is Sky teaching me how to cook (I was taking notes the whole time – promise)
The finished product
We had such a good night and although we didn’t take any photos of us eating it suffice to say it was AMAZING!!
What should I cook next? Send me links to your favourite recipes – i’m inspired!
