adventures of S&S, Animal Welfare League of Qld, Hans Sausage, Notes from S&S, Odie Sanchez

I have some news. I have been cheating on you and I am taking this time to ask for your forgiveness.

If you are a regular follower of our Sausage & Sanchez blog you would have noticed that I have been quite lately. For almost 40 days to be exact. Believe me I haven’t been happy about it either but I have had a bit of bloggers fatigue and I have also started a Tumblr account for the Animal Welfare League of Qld which has kept me very, very busy. Check it out here.. I am kind of obsessed with it.

Hans & Odie have been busy as well – they have been travelling around the coutry side doing as dogs do best. I will write more about this in a dedicated post but here is a bit of a visual round up (because why read when you can look at the pictures right)?

Hans & Odie have also been playing foster brothers to an adorable little Chug named Bells. By Chug I mean a Chihuahua x Pug. I will again write a dedicated post about this little beauty because my gosh there is too much to say about the little fire cracker and we will be so sad when it is time for her to find her forever home.

I promise to be more up to date in the coming days but I hope you enjoy this round up and I will be in touch soon.

Gold Coast Pet Expo

adventures of S&S, Notes from S&S, Uncategorized

What a day we had at Varsity Lakes hanging out with the local pooches. The Gold Coast Pet Expo was in full swing with little lovelies in all shapes and sizes. It was so great to meet up with supporters of Sausage and Sanchez. My favorite of the day though had to be catching up with my little Olive, the Rottwieler pup we fostered a little while back. She is growing so quickly and her new proud parents have renamed her Ebony.

Daisy the Corgi

So good to catch up with little Olive – Now Ebony!

Poppy the Lion Daxie

Gracie has mummy kisses all over her nose.

Frankie the Dachshund looking oh so stylish!

Pearl the baby Chihuahua

Sanchez the Boxer and Pablo the Chihuahua – The cutest duo ever!

How does your sausage roll? These little cuties were riding in style around the expo!

What a week

Notes from S&S, Odie Sanchez

Is it the weekend yet?

Here is what has been happening in the week that was:

Monday: What a busy start to the week. I arrived at work a little dis-heartened becuase my foster dog Jedi had still not been adopted. Taking matters in to my own hands I phoned around everyone I knew who may be interested in the worlds nicest dog before getting a phone call from the lovely Lisa who I had been chatting to all year in the hope I could find her a new dog for her family. She came out to the shelter with her kids and her partner Sean, (who is also the co-host of 102.9 Hot Tomato’s breakfast show). I am fairly certain it was love at first sight. They took Jedi home late Monday afternoon and I have been getting facebook updates about his progress ever since. I look forward to hearing the adventures of newly named JED on the radio in the future.

Monday also saw our new keyrings arriving to S&S HQ! Don’t they look great? Buy yours by emailing: sausageandsanchez@gmail.com

Tuesday: What a day Tuesday was. Tuesday saw our longest resident Greyhound Hugo find his forever home! The entire shelter stopped to say goodbye to this beautiful boy and we were all so happy that he would never spend another night in a kennel.. His new owner intends on showering him with love and affection. We have lots of Greyhounds waiting for their forever homes. Some of which I have written about here

Farewell mate!! – We will miss you!!

Tuesday was also the day I was reunited with two of the little Rotti pups who I spent the night awake with a few weeks ago bottle feeding every two hours. They are now five weeks old and will spend the next 3 weeks living at my place getting bigger and fatter..

Rotty pups at 2 weeks old

Check out their video they are sooo cute! Han’s has his hands full teaching them who’s boss!

Wednesday: Puppy central! I got to work to find that Jack & Rosie the Border Collie pups our photographer Jane had on foster are ready to be desexed and put up for adoption. These guys will be great playmates for a family that are able to spend time running around the backyard or a farm with them. They are so much fun!

Keeping on top of all the Sausage & Sanchez orders I went home and got to work on a new coat for a little Dachshund named Molly. Her new Strawberries & Creme coat looks just fabulous on Hans Sausage. (Although he did not seem to impressed in his new pink attire).

Thursday: Today I checked up on the Sharpei Mum who gave birth at our shelter to 7 little puppies. They will all need to go out on foster with their mumma to grow big and strong. They are so tiny and we think they are crossed with a Staffy. She is such a good mum.

Look out for tomorrow’s aritcle where I will post lots of new pix of animals waiting for their forever homes. It’s been a busy week!

Hans works out

Hans Sausage, Notes from S&S, Uncategorized

My New Years resolutions this year was to be more creative and to get fit.. In April I started Sausage & Sanchez and I am so proud of what has become and so thankful to everyone’s support along the way. Especially those of you that have bought the S&S products.

The get fit side of my new years resolution is a work in progress and I have had so much fun pushing my body to achieve the strong healthy body I have always longed for. It is amazing how when you really want something the universe has a way of making it happen for you. (I will explain what I mean more below).

The year started out great. On the third of January I started Bikram Yoga at Mermaid Beach Thanks to good old SCOOPON I was able to try it out for a month unlimited for $50. I have always been pretty flexible and loved how challenging Bikram was. It was such a great escape and even though I left looking like a hot tomato and constantly soaked my car seat with sweat on the drive home, (I purchased a moped to avoid my car smelling like a garbage truck). I truly loved it.

For those of you that don’t know Bikram yoga is synthesised from traditional Hatha Yoga, runs for 90 minutes and consists of a set series of 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises. Sound easy? Here’ the kicker, it is practiced in a hot room where it is not uncommon for the thermostat to read 40 degrees Celsius.. YUK I hear you say. Well yes, it certainly does take some getting used to.

In the month I averaged 4 classes a week and I finished up with glowing skin and lots more energy. I could feel my body getting more toned but was not losing any weight nor losing any centremetres. I could feel myself getting bored as the movements in each class are always the same and 90minutes is a looooooooooooong time to spend in a hot room in the middle of Summer. So after a brief encounter with BIKRAM himself I thought it time to leave on a high and try something else.

I L.O.V.E this place. Pilates Barre being my favourite. Again thank you Universe for the 21 day living social deal where I got to try unlimited classes, (and boy did I ever). I think I went every day for 21 days and then signed up again for a 3 month pass. The studios are beautiful and there are fresh flowers brought in weekly. You can even finish your class with a complimentary Apple to give you a quick boost of energy. Check out their blog for some awesome recipes.

If you haven’t tried Pilates Barre it was started by a Russian Ballet Dancer who developed a protocol for her own rehab after a serious spinal injury in the 1940’s. It integrates fat-burning interval training with muscle shaping isometrics to quickly and safely reshape the entire body. It uses a ballet barre, a yoga mat and hand weights  and boy does it help you find muscles you never knew existed.   This workout also requires mental focus which is great on the weekend when you want to block out work, and things you ‘have to do’ floating into your head.

With all this Yoga and Pilates I felt great and very elongated. I loved the chance to meditate and try new movements and to shut out the world for an hour. But I thought it was time to boost up the cardio and try something a little more ‘hard core’ and once again as soon as I asked the Universe provided.

“Congratulations Brooke you are the lucky winner of a 12 week challenger boot camp at Urban Babes“. OMG I think I have found my work out calling.

OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG OMG This is the best thing ever!

Urban Babes is about females who want to empower themselves, get fitter and improve their bodies by becoming stronger and more toned and I did just that. in 12 weeks I lost 26cm off of my body! Our trainer Revie is amazing and designs high intensity workouts that really get results. (I also love her because she owns a Sausage dog named Peach). I have met some great girls here and have never felt fitter. I am a convert!

The Babes. (I’m second from the right).

With all this energy and exercise on the brain I thought it only natural to make Hans Sausage a gym sweater. It is so cute, made from fleecy bulldog print he is snug as a bug and comfy as can be. I think I should change his name to Rocky he looks so tough.

You can order one for your pooch for just $11 by emailing brooke@sausageandsanchez.com

Thank you Universe for helping me stick to my goals and achieve so much in the last 7 months. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year has in store.

Are you sticking to your NY resolution?

S&S learn to cook

Hans Sausage, Notes from S&S, Odie Sanchez, Uncategorized

If you know me you will know that when it comes to the kitchen I am no 1950’s housewife. I burn water, scrape the charcol off my toast on a daily basis and have pretty much come to terms with the fact that I will never be on Masterchef. (Did you watch it last night by the way? Go ANDY)! Believe me it is not through lack of wanting to learn to cook, heck Tom and I have had date nights at cooking school,  (however this to also resulted in the head chef looking at my knife skills and promptly taking the knife off of me while shaking his head).

Tom is the cook in our house and he is the most patient cook in the world. He spent 3 hours last night making Terriaki sauce! Albeit his time management is a little off and he is yet to master the ‘clean as you go’ rule, (he cooks I clean) I have to say he is pretty dam amazing in the culinary depatment. It relaxes him, and although you can’t have a conversation while he is IN THE ZONE his efforts are always delicious. (See what he made last night below).

Last weekend I decided enough was enough – I need to a have at least one meal in my cooking repertoire! So I called upon my Friend Sky who is a whiz in the kitchen and we decided we would spend the afternoon in the kitchen making Gnocchi FROM SCRATCH!

To get in the cooking spirit and to get the creative juices flowing, (pardon the pun) I brought over a 1.5 litre bottle of Shiraz. BEST IDEA EVER!

Hans Sausage and Odie Sanchez weren’t going to miss out on the action – they ended up doing more work then I did – Turns out Hans is a whiz with a Whisk!

Odie the typical Mexican wanted nothing to do with making Italian food and spent the afternoon doing shots!

Then lazing in the sun with Sky’s pooch Kurt. They pretend to hate each other but when nobodies looking they hang out like bro’s.
Notice how the Sanchez gets the couch while Kurt is banished to the floor. Little dog syndrome strikes again!

Here is Sky teaching me how to cook (I was taking notes the whole time – promise)

The finished product

We had such a good night and although we didn’t take any photos of us eating it suffice to say it was AMAZING!!

What should I cook next? Send me links to your favourite recipes – i’m inspired!

Lazy Sundaze

Hans Sausage, Notes from S&S

I love Sunday’s, especially when it starts with a trip to The Village Markets (TVM) with Hans Sausage and my good friend Magda. TVM is full of crafty goods and clothing, delicious food and fun people. I would love to have a Sausage & Sanchez stall there one day soon. It is also lots of fun because it is the one of few places on the Gold Coast where you can take your dog without raised eyebrows or cranky shop keepers and there is always lots of tail wagging and butt sniffing.. HANS LOVES IT! Check out photos here.

After the markets Magda and I took Hans to Burleigh Hill where he met an Australian Bulldog and proceeded to play hide and seek as he wasn’t sure if he would be squashed or eaten if he got too close.

When we got home I pulled out the sewing machine and inspired by the creatives at the markets got to work on a new coat for the little Lo-rider.

It is so hard to find a coat that fits Han’s body shape which was a big reason why I started Sausage & Sanchez. As it turns out I am not alone. Most of the Sausage & Sanchez fans are owners of dogs that are cross breeds with odd body shapes which leaves them with little options in the winter coat department.

I made a similar style of coat for Odie a couple of weeks ago and think it is a great design as it keeps their little chests warm. Hans lays on his tummy a lot so these style is ideal and I think he looks so handsome!

We will be selling this design in the S&S store from Monday for $55.

For custom sizing email details to brooke@sausageandsanchez.com

I think he likes his new threads.

International Kissing Day

Notes from S&S

There is nothing better than a big kiss! It can mean so many things. I love you, I miss you, hello, friendship. The list goes on.
Today is International Kissing Day. It started in the UK but quickly caught on worldwide.

The idea behind the International Kissing Day is that many people may have forgotten the simple pleasures associated with kissing for kissing’s sake, as opposed to kissing as mere social formality or prelude to other activities. Kissing can be an enjoyable experience in and of itself. It is an expression and experience of intimacy. International Kissing Day is not as commercialised as Valentine’s Day.

These are my favourite kissing snaps:

Baby kisses

The love of your life kisses

Han’s Sausage & his blue balls

Hans Sausage, Notes from S&S, Uncategorized

I was tinkering around today and thought I would get a little creative and pull apart an old blanket that was stating to fade. Han’s is obsessed with squeaky toys and so I set about inventing something that would keep him busy and that wouldn’t be destroyed in 2 minutes flat. I think the results were pretty impressive and Hans loves it!

For those of you who like to recycle as well… Here is what I did…

What you will need

Old blanket (see below)
Sewing Machine
Needle & thread
Crazy Dachshund

Old Blanket – I loved this one because it was a knit and Han’s teeth can penetrate it without ripping SUCCESS!!

Step 1: Cut out circle shape

Step 2: Sew both pieces together

Step 3: fill with stuffing

Step 4: Insert squeaker

Step 5: Hand stitch closed

Step 6: Give to your pooch and watch them try to destroy it.

Got Fans? S&S sure do!

Hans Sausage, Notes from S&S, Odie Sanchez

Hans Sausage & Odie Sanchez are becoming more and more popular by the day, This I knew… What I didn’t know is that they would start getting fan mail!! Han’s was even sent a wooden Dachshund all the way from Sweden! Check it out below….
