I was browsing my one of my favourite dog blogs the other day when I came across something pretty special. The words on the page in beautiful colours were ones that I say to people who want to help animals but don’t know how on a daily basis.
What were these words I hear you ask? Well lucky for you I have shared them below.
Serena from Pretty Fluffy has designed Project 13 to encourage others to do 13 kind things for animals. This equates to one thing per week for the rest of the year.
Her words to describe how she came up with the concept are words I hear from members of the public daily.
“Is it just me, or as someone who cares about animals, do you get a little overwhelmed with all of the groups, causes and individuals out there that need your help? I sometimes get so overwhelmed I start to feel like things are completely hopeless.
Some days it seems for every photo I see of a rescue dog going to their new home, I see ten more to take their place in the shelter.
There are times when I think, if I was more influential… wealthier… better connected… I could make more of a difference. That little voice inside my head tells me no matter how hard I try I’m just one person. And one person can’t make a difference.
Well I’m here today to tell that voice they’re wrong. One person can make a difference, and I want YOU to join me. Join me in The 13 Project”.

Week 1 Foster a dog – (This dog’s name is Rusty and he is a Corgi – Stay tuned to learn all about this little character).
Week 2 Donate my time to educate the community on the importance of adoption at the Gold Coast City Council Pet Expo
Week 3 Donate Sausage & Sanchez toys to the Animal Welfare League of Qld puppies
Week 4 Spring clean the cupboards and donate clothes and furniture to the AWLQ Op shops
Week 5 Camp out with the Dog’s to raise money and awareness for homeless animals – Please donate by clicking here
Week 6 Find the perfect forever home for Rusty, (this may fall into another week)
Week 7 Buy a Treats-a-la-Bark variety pack and give to our long term dogs at the AWLQ rehoming centre.
Week 8 Purchase Christmas gifts for Hans and Odie through the AWLQ online store
Week 9 Make a Craft 4 Cat and donate it to raise money for the AWLQ
Week 10 Share the profiles of animals looking for a new home on my social media channels and on my blog
Week 11 Sign this petition to help save Greyhounds from a cruel export trade.
Week 12 Encourage others to get involved in the 13 Project
Week 13 Take the shelter dogs to the beach for a run in the sand.
